Clifford

The DNA matches through the Griffin line confirm the Clifford story - that this family is related to the Edward of Rossbeigh family.
There are also DNA matches of the Griffin line to our Cashel family. I am not sure what these mean.

Mary Blennerhassett listed as married ("sister, Mary Clifford") in her brother Rev. Conway Blennerhassett's will 1805.
From [MGH, 1883].

--- Clifford.
Family tradition says John Clifford or Timothy Clifford.
Apparently a Catholic.
He mar pre-1774 to Mary Blennerhassett [Protestant, born probably after 1736].
She was dau of Edward Blennerhassett, of Rossbeigh, near Glenbeigh, Co.Kerry. Two of her brothers were Protestant clergy.
Her descendants had a family story that she was disowned by her family for her "inappropriate marriage" to Mr Clifford, a Catholic.
This is clearly true. Her father's will of 1774 says he leaves to "unfortunate dau. Mary one British shilling and no more."
She fl 1805. Mentioned as "Mary Clifford" in her brother Rev. Conway Blennerhassett's will 1805.
They had issue (descendants Catholic).

Thought to be grandparents of:

  1. John Clifford,
    John Patrick Clifford, born 1816.
See entry in tree by "teryg93".
He mar 14 Feb 1849 to Bridget Riordan.
Marriage entry refers to one of them (presumably Bridget not John) as of Cromane, Killorglin par (NE of Glenbeigh, W of Killorglin).
They mar at [Killorglin RC church].
Lived at Knockaunglass, Killorglin par, Co.Kerry (townland beside Dooks, NE of Glenbeigh, see old map).
"John Clifford" is listed as holding 17 acres at Knockaunglass in [Griffiths Valuation, 1852].
At son's birth 1864 he is "cottier", living at Knockaunglass.
He died 23 Mar 1879, Knockaunglass, age 63 yrs. See death cert from here.
    They had issue:

    1. Mary Clifford,
      born 1853.
She mar Patrick Griffin and had issue.

    2. William Clifford,
born 1 Apr 1864 at Knockaunglass.
      See birth cert from here.
