George Cashel, of Shallee House, Co.Tipperary

George Cashel,
bapt 4 August 1843.
His father inherited Shallee House, Co.Tipperary, in 1855.
The family emigrated to New Zealand by 1865.
His father died in New Zealand in 1869. George set up home back in Shallee House. Either he came back to Ireland, or (more likely) he never went to New Zealand.
Kathleen Wicks thought he went to New Zealand and returned to Ireland when his father died and he inherited Shallee. But surely if the family went they would have sold it. So more likely George never went, but stayed in Ireland to make a go of the old family property.
Listed at mar 1871 as of Shallee.

He mar 11 Oct 1871 to Caroline Braddell [born 1834, Co.Cork].
Church of Ireland marriage. See mar cert from here.
Living Shallee in 1873.
Will of Rowan F. Cashel 1875 refers to his "cousin" George Cashel of Shallee.
George Cashel is listed as owning 400 acres at Shallee in [Owners of Land, 1876].
Left Shallee House sometime in 1883-1901.
George and Caroline are listed in 1901 census at Clonsingle, Newport, Co.Tipperary. He is farmer. Both Church of Ireland.
She died 17 Mar 1909, Newport, Co.Tipperary. See death cert from here.
He died weeks later, 19 Apr 1909, Newport, Co.Tipperary. See death cert from here. He is "gentleman".
They had issue:

  1. George Cashel,
born 1 Feb 1873, Shallee. See birth cert from here.
He must be George Rowan Cashel, only son of the late George Cashel, of Shallee House, who is listed in 1914 as engaged to mar Amy Cecilia Nepean.
See Irish Times, January 1, 1914. He is listed as of Portumna, Co.Galway.
Amy Cecilia Nepean was only dau of Lieutenant-Colonel A. O. de B. Nepean, Royal Marine Light Infantry, of the Park, Queenstown, Co.Cork.
The wedding was planned to be early June 1914.

This must be George Cashel of Shallee (bapt 1843).
